Every now and then, there comes a place with food so good, you wonder if the experience can get any better. And then, by the some stroke of luck, you find a place with amazing food, an amazing host, and an experience so memorable, you want to embed the feeling in your mind forever. Cue Red Door Cafe. A few weeks ago, one of my very best friends from college came up from LA to pay me a visit. When we were deciding how to spend the beautifully warm morning that graced the bay that day, I almost kicked myself for not thinking of my beloved Red Door Cafe sooner.

We should have known that our breakfast was off to a good start when a drunk homeless man helped us parallel park into the tightest spot known to mankind. Only in San Francisco, right? Don’t ask me why two perfectly sober individuals couldn’t make it into the spot themselves. As soon as we high-fived each other for our seemingly impossible parking victory, we ran to stand in line for what would be the single best meal of our lives. We were lucky enough to beat the hour-long wait, when AD, Red Door’s owner, graciously pulled out a special seventh table for us. We sat patiently, tummies grumbling and all, as we waited to taste a little bit of heaven. When our food came, we were in a state of ultimate bliss. The flavors, the presentation, AD’s beaming personality, the overall experience – nothing could beat it (except, of course, being able to share it all with one of your best friends). There’s so much I could say about Red Door, but it’s really a place you must experience on your own. And, if you’re wondering what to order, I say try ANYTHING. You can’t go wrong, and you definitely, definitely won’t be sorry.
