Nico 3228 Sacramento Street
San Francisco is envied for more reasons than one. Despite its occasional Karl the Fog days and higher than average rental market rates, everyone wants a little piece of the city by the bay. One of my favorite reasons for living in this city is being able to experience all of the magical restaurants that pop up around town. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to dine at Pacific Height's Michelin-rated, Nico. Nico quietly sits on Sacramento Street and you can easily walk by it's simple exterior not knowing about the hidden gem you're about to pass by. But, if you're in the know (and you usually are if you're a true San Franciscan foodie), you know that Nico is a place you don't want to pass up.

For those who are unfamiliar (and that's okay - that's what I'm here for, after all!), Nico is "carte blanche," meaning there is no menu. Nico changes it five course menu on the daily. Yes - every. single. day. For the picky eaters, Nico may not be for you. But, if you're one who is up for a dining experience and ready to let your chef treat you to the menu in his mind, Nico's your place. For $65 you don't just get five courses - you really get an experience. On the evening of my dinner, we had scallops with yuzu and black radish, rainbow trout made with mushrooms, coffee and nettle, chicken served with green garlic, potato and chard and bergamot with pistachio and fennel. Each plate appeared with a paired wine to help bring out the best flavors of the dish. Along with a daily-changing menu, Nico also offers low-octane beverages - we tried a "new-fashioned" and a delicious beverage reminiscent of a Keebler grasshopper (delicious, to say the least). Before the end of the night, I had already texted my boyfriend saying we needed to come back for date night. Whether you're looking for that perfect date night spot, or in the mood to try something new and adventurous, Nico's your place.
Special thank you to Nico for inviting me to share in this night.
